Road Test Checklist: What to Bring to NJMVC

Getting ready for your NJMVC road test is exciting — but nothing is worse than showing up unprepared. Many students and parents wonder: What documents do I need? What should I bring with me? Don’t worry — we’ve put together a simple NJ road test checklist so you’re ready for the big day.

Documents You Must Bring

Bring these items or your road test may be canceled:

  • Valid permit (must be legible and not expired)

  • 6 Points of ID (e.g., birth certificate or passport, Social Security card, proof of address)

  • Knowledge test certificate (if not already on file)

  • Red GDL decals (must be on the front and back license plates if you are under 21)

Vehicle Requirements

Your car must be in safe, test-ready condition. That means:

  • Have a valid registration, insurance card, and current inspection sticker

  • No dashboard warning lights on (check engine, ABS, etc.)

  • Parking brake accessible to the examiner

  • Working signals, brake lights, horn, and windshield wipers

  • No obstructions (like consoles) blocking the examiner from reaching the brake

Tip: At Vista Driving School, we provide road-test-ready vehicles so you don’t have to stress about whether your car passes inspection. Learn more about Bakers Basin Road Test Rental or Delanco/Cherry HIll Road Test Rental.

Who Needs to Come With You

Other Helpful Items

While not mandatory, these can help make test day smoother:

  • Appointment confirmation (printed or on your phone)

  • Glasses or contacts if you need them for vision

  • A water bottle to stay calm and hydrated

  • Practice notes — review your parallel parking, K-turns, and full stops while you wait

  • NJMVC road test page

Where to Test

Most of our students take their test at Bakers Basin, Delanco, or Cherry Hill NJMVC. All locations are busy, so plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early.
