Storm Update: NO LESSONS Sunday & Monday — Plus Winter Safety Tips

winter driving tips

A big winter storm is coming to New Jersey. The Governor has declared a state of emergency. Some areas will get 12-16 inches of snow. There may also be ice and freezing rain.

All Vista Driving School lessons are canceled on Sunday, January 26 and Monday, January 27. We will contact you to schedule a new time.

Your safety and your family's safety come first.

If You Must Drive

The best choice in a snow storm is to stay home. But if you have to drive:

  • Go slow. The speed limit is for good weather. This is not good weather.

  • Stay far from other cars. Leave 8-10 seconds of space between you and the car in front of you.

  • Brake early and soft. If you brake hard on snow or ice, you can lose control.

  • Clean all the snow off your car. Not just a small spot on the window. In New Jersey, snow flying off your car is against the law.

  • If your car slides: Take your foot off the gas. Look where you want to go. Turn the wheel slowly that way. Do not hit the brakes hard.

For Parents

This is a good time to teach your teen about winter driving. Watch the roads together. Talk about what you see. Later this week, when the roads are better, you can take your teen to an empty parking lot. Practice stopping and turning on wet or icy ground. Practice helps them feel ready.

Stay Safe!

We will see you when the roads are clear. Watch the news. Do not go out if you do not need to.
